New Blog Title and Etsy Shop

I haven't been too fond of the name "darlabar" for a shop. It suits the requirements for a username, but it doesn't really say anything about my shop and it's not entirely appealing. So, I will be setting up a new shop called "Miss Kitty Face" and renaming my blog to that at some point too. I feel better already. And no, it's not just because I love cats, but also because some close friends of mine have said I have a kitty face. So, there ya go. Just a quick  update!

Happy Times

I'm drooling. Scott Pilgrim was....so...super FANTASTIC.  Mike and I went to the midnight show last night. We seriously couldn't wait until today.  A number of the scenes and sets were identical to how they were in the comic--instant happiness.  Overall, we walked out very giddy movie watchers :)

To add to my giddiness, I found out Poketo has released a limited time  product line at Target...and they have the laptop bag of my dreams. Why? Owls, duh.   I found out after they closed so, being the nerd I am, I made sure to wake up early enough to get to Target before I went to work so I could snag a lap top bag...just in case. With all the new college kids in town returning for school I couldn't risk them being bought out.
So happy! ^_^

Weekend Accomplishments

Busy weekend...as in, I accomplished tasks.

My fellow employees and I had to design a shirt for work to promote the new "Body of Art" contest (p.s. I work at Aaron Brothers Art and Framing).  So, I spent all day yesterday finishing up my design and getting a headache from all the wonderful Prismacolor markers and Sharpie fumes...and here she is:

(The buttons were my clever way of covering up a not-so-awesome idea.) If you want to win a bunch of bucks I would head over to the Aaron Brothers website and check out the contest--it's actually cool! (Go advertising!) I do have a question, has anyone used Prismacolors before on fabric? I'm afraid of them washing out or rapidly fading. Is there anything to make them more permanent, like ironing them? Thanks! I know it was a risky moving when I used them, but the colors were perfect for what I needed and I deem that reason enough to use them ^_^

I also accomplished carving my first stamp this weekend. Go me!

Meet Mr. Fujimoto, a very serious pug, who is going to be my star for the Pugs in the Park event in October down in Denver. I don't have any ink yet (I know, I'm prepared), so here's a clearer picture of what he looks like:
Daawww...he's so serious.  I'm planning on printing him on fabric and lots of lots of things for my fellow pug obsessors ^_^

My binder from The Banana Paper Company  finally got some love. I bought it because 1) It had a pack of banana paper already in it, and 2) It was awesomely naked for a drawing. So here it is all...pretty:
Head in the Clouds
I'm excited to bring her to school providing she won't get utterly destroyed in my bag.

And that was my artsy weekend. I feel AWESOME. Plus, there's only three more days until Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World. I'm quivering with excitement.

Life and Comics and Paragraphs

Oh so neglectful of my duties as a blogger. But hey, in all seriousness, I'm mostly talking to myself right now ^_^

But as I promised, this blog won't entirely revolve around Etsy, so here's another thing that's happening in my life:
Mike and I are creating a comic based on our cats in the forms of super awesome cat detectives. Dare I say more? (I'm super paranoid about awesome-idea-thiefs.) I won't spout the name just yet, but I can tell you it deals with the idea of "black" in Japanese since both of our cats are 100% black. Mike has drafted the first and second book, but so far all I've done is design Apollo and Hermes (our cats) and their two bunny buddies Bobbit and Duane. Yeah, I'm a bit slower than Mike in the development, but it this comic WILL happen, and you are the first one (aside my Mike, myself and family) to know about it. You should feel awesome. Once the sketches are more developed I'll post pictures (it's really because I don't want to reveal their awesomeness just yet.)

# of times awesome was used: 4

Here's what I'm excited about:

One of the best comics I've read so far. What? This was a comic first? Yes. And I highly recommend it. Bryan Lee O'Mally is a phenomenal writer and artist...I have some much heart for him. He writes the comic with a sense of humor that makes fun of the comic as a comic and the fact that it's a convoluted dating story. And the rest of the funny? Hits the spot.  I was so excited and impatient for volume 6 to come out, Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour, (the last of the series) that I called Barnes and Noble and the local Fort Collins comic book stores, Halley's Comics and Gryphon Games and Comics, only to be told that they only had the first volume and they were sold out of the 6th volume already (this was on the day of it's release). So, because of my inability to wait a week for their next shipment, I called Time Warp comic in Boulder (which is an hour away) and put a copy on hold. And they laughed at me...because Scott Pilgrim is not a comic read by most serious comic book readers. BUT, I was able to buy the 6th volume so that doesn't matter ^_^

Toots!

Thursday, July 22, 2010

Ah, Thursday

Thursdays are good days. In other words, paychecks come in on Thursdays.

I added new items to my shop! Hooray! I now have my Kitty One, Two, and Three series up for sale (the green and yellow version) and two new birthday canvases posted (as opposed to a birthday card.)  LOTS more versions of the birthday cards will be popping up over the next few weeks, so if you have any birthdays coming up...hint hint.

I also received my free set of 12 owl stickers from Sarah at craftyFOLK! Another hooray! Plus a surprise sticker of her newest Polaroid camera illustration! ^_^
Aren't they too freakin' squealy cute? If you would like to get these, just follow these instructions to get yours. Her shop is also full of wonderful little treats, a number of which are making my Christmas-gifts-for-myself list.

Hope your Thursday is also an extra happy day before the weekend!

Hello

Hello! I'm glad you found me :) I recently opened a shop on the infamous Etsy so it was a matter of time before I created a blog for it. Well, it's not 100% dedicated to the shop but I will post when I add a new item, if I'm working on anything new--that sort of shop info, because I know it can get irritating if all someone blogs about is ETSY ETSY ETSY.  Okay, so who am I? I'm an artist and a student at CSU (Colorado State University) where I will soon be minoring in Japanese. No major for now because I'm only here as long as my fiance is here which is less than the amount of time for me to finish my degree. Why not an art degree? Well, that is seriously a long, opinionated story that might be ranted about another time. (My fiance's name is Mike by the way.) We live with our two black cats, Apollo and Hermes. Apollo is the long haired, intelligent, and less cuddly one, and Hermes is the short haired, squishy (as is fat), and less intelligent one (although he makes up for his lack of intelligence with his natural ability to dance...yes we are the type that make our cats dance.) We love them ^_^

And THAT, is what this blog is and who does it. It was nice meeting you!

Oh, and don't forget to stop by my shop! It's still small, but it will grow! :)
